Substance Use Treatment

Henrico Area Mental Health & Developmental Services (HAMHDS) Outpatient service strive to provide individuals with the treatment services and supports they need to recover from behavioral health issues, including mental health and substance use challenges We aim to assist individuals in building meaningful, productive, and fulfilling lives. Services are based on an intensive and individualized assessment completed at the time of admission. Services are strengths-based, person-centered, and collaborative. We strive to use evidence-based practices throughout all our  programming. When appropriate, we involve family and loves ones in the individual’s treatment, recognizing that a robust natural support system is often key to success in treatment. We also seek ways to promote community integration for individuals who may have experienced isolation because of their behavioral health issues or legal involvement through volunteer opportunities, employment, and participation in social and recreational activities.

Pregnant and parenting women and those requiring Medication Assisted Treatment for their Substance Use Disorder who are requesting treatment for substance use issues are a priority population, and we ensure that they are seen within 48 hours.

These services are available to adults over the age of 18. For information on services for children and teens, please refer to the Youth & Family Outpatient Services.
